PF transfer stuck because the date of exit isn't updated
Your previous employer hasn't recorded a date of exit, so EPFO still treats that job as ongoing. The transfer can't proceed until it's recorded.

Why it's stuck
- EPFO treats the date of exit for your previous job as required for a transfer. Without it, the automatic transfer won't run.
- Employers are supposed to record it. Many don't, or record it late.
- You can mark the exit yourself, but only after two months from leaving. The date must fall in the month of the last PF contribution from that employer.
Do this next
- Log in to the EPFO Member Portal → View → Service History. Confirm the exit date for your previous member ID is blank.
- Left less than two months ago? Send your previous employer's HR the message below and ask them to record the exit date.
- Two months have passed? Go to Manage → Mark Exit, choose the old employment, and enter a date inside the month of the last contribution shown in your passbook, plus a reason. Confirm with the Aadhaar OTP.
- Check the date carefully before you submit. EPFO says it can't be changed online once it's saved.
- If the employer recorded a wrong exit date, correct it through Manage → Modify Basic Details (for Aadhaar-validated UANs, date of leaving is one of the details you can fix there). Menu names on the portal shift after updates; look for the closest match.
- Once the exit date shows, check whether a transfer has started. If not, file it yourself.

Don't
- Don't guess the date. It must fall in the month of the last PF contribution, and you can't edit it online later.
- Don't mark an exit for the job you're still in.
- Don't file a transfer before the exit date shows. It will likely be held.
FAQ
Can I update my date of exit myself?
Yes, once two months have passed since you left. Use Manage → Mark Exit on the member portal with an Aadhaar OTP. The date has to fall in the month of your last PF contribution from that employer.
Is the date of exit mandatory for a PF transfer?
EPFO treats it as required, and the automatic transfer won't proceed without it.
The employer entered the wrong exit date. Can it be fixed?
For Aadhaar-validated UANs, EPFO's simplified Joint Declaration includes date of leaving among the details members can correct. Older or non-Aadhaar cases may need the employer.
Other reasons a transfer gets stuck
- Two UANs: your old PF is on a different UAN
- KYC not complete (Aadhaar, PAN or bank pending)
- Name, date of birth or gender mismatch
- One employer runs its own PF trust (exempted establishment)
- Transfer pending with employer approval
- New member ID not linked yet, or no first deposit
- Everything looks fine, but no automatic transfer started
- Transfer claim rejected
- Claim is with EPFO (under process) or settled but not visible
- No new PF account to transfer into yet
Not EPFO. PFFork is an independent free guide from Opti, not affiliated with EPFO or the Government of India. It doesn't ask for or store your UAN, name or any personal data. Rules and portal menus change; always confirm on the EPFO Member Portal. Facts reviewed 5 October 2026.
