PF transfer stuck because an employer has its own PF trust
Your old or new employer manages PF through its own trust instead of EPFO. EPFO's automatic transfer doesn't cover these accounts, so the trust has to take part.

Why it's stuck
- EPFO's automatic transfer covers accounts EPFO manages directly. Transfers involving a private (exempted) PF trust follow a separate process.
- Per EPFO's FAQ, transfers between two exempted establishments happen offline.
- The trust usually has to send the money and a transfer statement, so you need its contact, not just the EPFO portal.
Do this next
- Ask HR at the employer with the trust: “Is our PF managed by an exempted trust? Who handles transfers?”
- Get the trust's own transfer process: the form, where to send it, and whether it can be started on the EPFO portal.
- Old employer is the trust: ask the trust to transfer your balance to your new employer's PF account, quoting your UAN and new member ID.
- New employer is the trust: give its PF team your UAN and old member ID and ask them to request the transfer in.
- Keep copies of everything you submit. Check the receiving account's statement for the credit.

Don't
- Don't keep refiling on the EPFO portal if one side is a trust. Ask the trust first.
- Don't withdraw instead of transferring just because the trust is slow.
- Don't send original documents without keeping copies.
FAQ
Does auto-transfer work with exempted PF trusts?
No. EPFO's automatic transfer is for accounts EPFO manages directly. Trust accounts follow the trust's process, and transfers between two exempted trusts happen offline.
How do I know if my company has a PF trust?
Your PF statement comes from the company trust rather than the EPFO passbook, or your balance doesn't show in the EPFO passbook. Ask HR to confirm.
Who do I chase if it's stuck?
The PF trust at the employer holding the money. The HR message on this page asks for the exact process and contact.

Not EPFO. PFFork is an independent free guide from Opti, not affiliated with EPFO or the Government of India. It doesn't ask for or store your UAN, name or any personal data. Rules and portal menus change; always confirm on the EPFO Member Portal. Facts reviewed 5 October 2026.
