PF transfer stuck because KYC isn't verified
Your UAN isn't fully KYC-verified. Automatic transfers, and transfers you file without an employer, both depend on a UAN that's linked to Aadhaar with verified KYC.
Not sure this is you? Take the 6-question checker
Why it's stuck
- EPFO's automatic transfer only runs for an Aadhaar-linked UAN with verified KYC.
- Filing a transfer yourself also needs an Aadhaar OTP, sent to the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar.
- Bank or PAN updates can sit as “pending for approval” until an employer approves them digitally.
Do this next
- Log in to the EPFO Member Portal → Manage → KYC. Note which of Aadhaar, PAN and bank shows as verified, pending or missing.
- Aadhaar not linked: link it from the portal with the Aadhaar OTP. Your mobile must be the one registered with Aadhaar.
- Bank or PAN showing “pending for approval by employer”: send your current HR the message below. Approval is quick for them once they know it's waiting.
- Make sure the name on your bank account and PAN matches your Aadhaar. If it doesn't, fix that first (see name/DOB mismatch).
- Once all three show verified, check again whether an automatic transfer has started (Online Services → Track Claim Status). If it hasn't, file the transfer yourself. Menu names on the portal shift after updates; look for the closest match.
Message to send HR
Fill in the [brackets] yourself. Nothing you type here leaves your device.
Don't
- Don't send your Aadhaar OTP or portal password to anyone, including “PF agents” offering to fix KYC.
- Don't add a bank account in someone else's name.
- Don't file a fresh transfer request while KYC is still pending. Fix KYC first.
FAQ
Can a PF transfer happen if KYC is pending?
Usually not. The automatic transfer needs an Aadhaar-linked UAN with verified KYC, and filing it yourself needs an Aadhaar OTP. Clear the pending item first.
Who approves bank KYC on the PF portal?
If the portal says “pending for approval by employer”, your current employer has to approve it digitally on the employer portal. The HR message on this page asks for exactly that.
My mobile number isn't linked to Aadhaar. What now?
Update the mobile number with Aadhaar first (through UIDAI). The EPFO OTP goes to the Aadhaar-linked number.
Other reasons a transfer gets stuck
- Two UANs: your old PF is on a different UAN
- Name, date of birth or gender mismatch
- Date of exit not updated for your previous job
- One employer runs its own PF trust (exempted establishment)
- Transfer pending with employer approval
- New member ID not linked yet, or no first deposit
- Everything looks fine, but no automatic transfer started
- Transfer claim rejected
- Claim is with EPFO (under process) or settled but not visible
- No new PF account to transfer into yet
Not EPFO. PFFork is an independent free guide from Opti, not affiliated with EPFO or the Government of India. It doesn't ask for or store your UAN, name or any personal data. Rules and portal menus change; always confirm on the EPFO Member Portal. Facts reviewed 5 October 2026.
