PF transfer stuck because of a name or date of birth mismatch

Your name, date of birth or gender on EPFO records doesn't match Aadhaar, or differs between your old and new member IDs. Transfers get rejected or held until the details agree.

Why it's stuck

Do this next

  1. Write down your name, date of birth and gender exactly as they appear on Aadhaar.
  2. Log in to the EPFO Member Portal → Manage → Modify Basic Details (the “Joint Declaration”). See what's on record for each member ID.
  3. UAN issued on or after 1 Oct 2017 and validated with Aadhaar: since January 2025 you can usually correct it yourself, with no documents and no employer approval.
  4. UAN issued before 1 Oct 2017: file the correction online. It may need your employer to certify it, so send HR the message below.
  5. UAN not linked to Aadhaar: the correction goes on paper through your employer to EPFO. Link Aadhaar first if you can.
  6. Once the correction is approved, file the transfer again, or wait for the automatic one. Menu names on the portal shift after updates; look for the closest match.

FAQ

Can I correct my name in EPF without my employer?

If your UAN was issued on or after 1 October 2017 and is validated with Aadhaar, usually yes. EPFO's January 2025 change lets you self-correct without documents. Older UANs may need the employer to certify the change.

My DOB is different in my old and new PF accounts. Will the transfer fail?

It can be held or rejected. Correct the record so both member IDs match your Aadhaar, then transfer.

How do I know when my UAN was issued?

Check your oldest payslip or appointment papers, or ask HR. If you first got a UAN before October 2017, assume the older rules apply.

Other reasons a transfer gets stuck

Not EPFO. PFFork is an independent free guide from Opti, not affiliated with EPFO or the Government of India. It doesn't ask for or store your UAN, name or any personal data. Rules and portal menus change; always confirm on the EPFO Member Portal. Facts reviewed 5 October 2026.
