PF transfer pending with previous employer approval
Your transfer request is waiting for an employer to approve (attest) it. Often that's an old employer that has no reason to hurry.

Why it's stuck
- Older transfer requests had to be approved by your past or present employer. Many sit there for weeks.
- Since January 2025, EPFO has dropped the employer step for Aadhaar-linked cases. Old member IDs under the same UAN, or under different UANs linked to the same Aadhaar, can go straight to EPFO. For UANs issued before 1 October 2017, name, date of birth and gender must also match.
- EPFO said members with a request already pending with the employer can delete it and refile directly.
Do this next
- Log in to the EPFO Member Portal → Online Services → Track Claim Status. Note which employer the request is pending with.
- Check you qualify for direct filing: Aadhaar linked, KYC verified, and (for older UANs) name, date of birth and gender matching across member IDs.
- If you qualify, delete the pending transfer request and file it again under One Member – One EPF Account. It should go to EPFO without employer approval.
- If you don't qualify, or the portal still routes it to an employer, choose your present employer for approval where offered. They're usually easier to reach.
- Send the HR message below to whichever employer it's pending with.
- Old company shut down or not responding? Fix KYC and details so you qualify for direct filing, or ask your present employer to approve it. EPFO's EPFO online-transfer FAQ (PDF) also covers the paper route. Menu names on the portal shift after updates; look for the closest match.
Message to send HR

Don't
- Don't file a second transfer while the first is still pending. Delete it first, then refile.
- Don't send repeated angry emails. One clear message with your UAN and member ID gets acted on faster.
- Don't pay anyone to “push” the approval.
FAQ
Can I submit a PF transfer without employer approval?
Often yes, since EPFO's January 2025 change. It applies to Aadhaar-linked UANs, and older UANs also need name, date of birth and gender to match. The portal decides when you file.
My transfer is pending with my previous employer for weeks. What should I do?
If you qualify for direct filing, delete the pending request and refile. If not, send the HR message on this page or choose your present employer for approval.
My old company has closed. Who approves the transfer?
Try to qualify for direct filing first, by getting KYC and details right. Otherwise ask your present employer to approve it, or use the paper route described in EPFO's transfer FAQ.
Other reasons a transfer gets stuck
- Two UANs: your old PF is on a different UAN
- KYC not complete (Aadhaar, PAN or bank pending)
- Name, date of birth or gender mismatch
- Date of exit not updated for your previous job
- One employer runs its own PF trust (exempted establishment)
- New member ID not linked yet, or no first deposit
- Everything looks fine, but no automatic transfer started
- Transfer claim rejected
- Claim is with EPFO (under process) or settled but not visible
- No new PF account to transfer into yet
Not EPFO. PFFork is an independent free guide from Opti, not affiliated with EPFO or the Government of India. It doesn't ask for or store your UAN, name or any personal data. Rules and portal menus change; always confirm on the EPFO Member Portal. Facts reviewed 5 October 2026.
